Crawford Estates: A Neighbourhood Rooted in History

Crawford Falls and Crawford Estates were named after the pioneering Crawford family, who settled in the Okanagan Valley in 1892. William Crawford, born in Scotland in 1844, and his wife, Isabella Aitken, also from Scotland, made their way to the Okanagan after spending time in Ontario, Vancouver, and New Westminster. The family preempted land in the Okanagan Mission, where they farmed and William established one of the area's first sawmills. The falls, located near their property, were named after the family, while Crawford Estates was later named to honor their lasting influence in the region. William and Isabella had five sons, David, Jack, William, Robert, and Alexander, who all worked alongside their parents in the sawmill and ranching operations. The Crawford family remained integral to the community, and their contributions to the area's development were lasting. The naming of Crawford Falls and Crawford Estates preserves the legacy of this early settler family and their role in shaping the region's history.
